Some of our FORSU project partners had the opportunity to participate in a workshop from July 24th to 26th called "Drone and LiDAR Technologies for Restoring Tropical Forest Ecosystems," which is part of the CLIDEV ("Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Vietnam") project, funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Hosted amidst the lush landscapes of the Doi Suthep Nature Study Centre in Chiang Mai, this three-day intensive workshop was facilitated by the Forest Restoration Research Unit (FORRU) from Chiang Mai University.
🌱 Workshop insights:
The workshop was designed to boost practical skills, providing participants from Vietnamese partner HEIs with advanced training in utilising drone technology for forest restoration and monitoring. The workshop featured two days of comprehensive classroom instruction, followed by a field application day dedicated to the practical implementation of drone technology.
🛠️ Enhanced skills:
By the conclusion of the workshop, participants had mastered:
While this workshop was not part of the FORSU project, the training provides many synergies with the project. The FORSU project, "Higher Education Cooperation for Forest Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Livelihoods in Bangladesh and Vietnam (FORSU)," benefits greatly from the restoration activities and advanced technological skills developed at the drone workshop. Such synergies enhance our collective efforts to promote forest landscape restoration and sustainable livelihoods in our target regions.
A heartfelt thanks to FORRU for their exceptional training and to all the enthusiastic participants. Your commitment is pivotal as we collectively navigate towards a greener, more sustainable future!
